York House ManagerDear Guest,

On my behalf and of the entire staff, I would first like to welcome you to the York House Lisboa and assure you that we will do everything within our power to turn a simple vacation into an unforgettable experience.

I would like you to consider some of my personal suggestions regarding Lisbon in order for you to have a more pleasant stay. I have personally selected some of my favourite restaurants, bars and museums so that you have a wider range of options. Further suggestions regarding the main events, exhibitions and shows in Lisbon, will also be posted here. For a more personal and direct contact, do not hesitate to call the reception whose staff will happily complement these suggestions and book your reservation.

Restaurants in Lisbon

A CONFRARIA (YORK HOUSE)

My first suggestion would be without hesitation, the A Confraria restaurant located in the York House because I place absolute trust in the skills of Chef Nuno Diniz and Chef Sofia Abecassis. Both chefs have successfully mastered the arts of fine cuisine and pastry, based on ancient recipes and traditional flavours, with creative and modern nuances. The end result is true and authentic Portuguese cuisine.
During the winter the restaurant offers a nice view of the garden, and during the spring and throughout the whole summer meals are served in that same garden depending on the weather conditions. The wine cellar offers a comprehensive selection of bottles and the wine chart was conceived according to the type of wine, making it easier for a non-connaisseur to make the appropriate choice. The restaurant is open daily and we advise you to book in advance.

Restaurant Tavares

It is the most famous restaurant in Portugal. It was the first one in the country and it is one of the oldest in the world. Located in one of the oldest most charming quarters of Lisbon, Tavares was the meeting point for the great intellectuals of our nation and illustrious characters as well as some enlightened bohemians.
The kitchen which has been fully renovated is under the command of prestigious chef José Avillez. The menu contemporarily inspired is brought to life by quality ingredients and a careful design of the dishes.

Located on the upper part of Park Edward VII and surrounded by the Amália Rodrigues Garden, the Eleven was inaugurated on the 11th November 2004. It is a modern space with glass walls which allow you to enjoy the magnificent surrounding scenery that includes the park, the castle, the river and the urban landscape.
Chef Joachim Koerper “German by birth but Mediterranean by adoption” bases the offer on national available produce , which causes the menu to vary according to the season. It is the so-called market season cuisine.
The Eleven is the only restaurant in Lisbon awarded with a Michelin Star.

Restaurant Gemelli

Considered one of the best (if not the best) Italian restaurant in the country, it owes its reputation to the Milanese Chef Augusto Gemelli, that has been introducing his creations first hand, to the Portuguese public since 1999. Inaugurated in November of 2007 on the second floor of the São Bento Market, it replaced the former Galeria-Gemelli, a small space in the São Bento Street that was the delight hundreds of happy customers.

Restaurant Bica do Sapato

John Malkovich and Catherine Deneuve are 2 of the partners of this restaurant along with Fernando Fernandes and José Miranda owners of the restaurant Pap’Açorda. These ingredients transformed the Bica do Sapato into one of the most fashionable restaurants in Lisbon. It has a nice river view and you can choose between the typical Mediterranean diet and the sushi-bar exclusively with Japanese food.

Restaurant XL

Imagine a room dominated by warm colours, brought to life by original and unusual decorative elements, which balance both rustic and sophisticated features wisely. The end result is a friendly intimate atmosphere. The profile of the customers that seek the XL, led to the designation of “fashion restaurant”, but when it comes to the quality of the food, the service and the attention provided to each client, the XL is not just show-off and doesn’t joke around.

The menu combines an internationally styled cuisine, with the craft and knowledge of typical home cooking and the careful selection of ingredients, plays an important role. The wine cellar which is considered one of the best in the country displays an excellent relation between quality and price and deserves reference. In my personal opinion it is the more fashionable restaurant in Lisbon.

Kubo – Bar – Terrace

This space posseses a completely innovative concept and distinguishes itself from other bars because it embodies the spirit of a refined bar and esplanade facing the Tagus river. Aside from enjoying an astonishing view, when daylight slowly fades away, you can attend cultural events, live acoustic music performances and stand-up comedy shows. The “end of the day / nightfall” concept, is perfect for those who wish to have a drink after work, or simply enjoy a beautiful sunset and scrutinize the changing skies as the ephemeral twilight reminds us of our humanity.
